Hibiscus brew is reputed to have been popular in ancient Egypt and the Sahel region in Senegal, Gambia and Northern Nigeria. While in North Africa it is called ‘Karkade’, in Mexico and Central America it is called ‘Jamaica’. Usually combined with beer in Trinidad and Tobago, it can be drunk hot or cold, with or without sugar and has a unique fruity tang with a beautiful red colour. It is famous for various health benefits.
